They had traversed through the parting of the Red Sea, then through a desert for 40 years, and now, the next generation and Caleb, led by Joshua, were about to enter the Promised Land. It was the season of Spring floods when Joshua and the Israelites were about to cross the Jordan River. God stopped the river from flowing on both sides to allow the people to cross over into the Promised Land. It was a way to remind this new generation of what God had done for the previous generation when He led them through the Red Sea, and it was also a way to establish Joshua as a leader, demonstrating that just as God was with Moses, He is also with Joshua to lead them.

This plaque design is a reminder of what the Israelites most likely saw when they stepped onto the riverbed of the Jordan: mud and silt. But the mud was to remind them of what they were standing on when there should have been strong waters that would have swept them downstream. The mud was a strong reminder that God was with them, and this is a reminder to us as well that God will keep us standing on dry ground in the midst of turbulence. As He was with the Israelites, He is with us today.
