When the rains stopped, Noah sent out a dove, but the dove came back. The third time he sent it out, it came back with an olive branch, a symbol of God's mercy, hope, and new beginnings. We have that hope of mercy in the forgiveness of our sins, and of being able to start over again, no matter how dark our past was, through Christ.
